Why is My Weight Loss Slow?

Let me know if you can relate to this… You are following a particular diet and doing everything right or maybe you are following a program that a friend followed and had great results and you are just not seeing the same weight loss. Slow, “grinding” weight loss is unfortunately very common for many people when they first start the process of trying to lose weight. In our Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky weight loss offices we often hear clients speak about this issue on their initial consultation with us. In this blog post I would like to explore why weight loss may be slow in the beginning and what can be done about it.

Slow weight loss, not seeing results, etc. in the beginning of a new weight loss program can be extremely detrimental. It can lead to someone feeling like “nothing is working” or “the effort just isn’t worth it”. This unfortunately can lead to abandoning an otherwise solid plan. So let’s first try to understand “why’ this may happen. The body is meant to metabolize body fat in situations where it has run out of food. 1000’s of years ago this may have been a regular occurrence. Human beings would go through harsh winters and famines. During these periods the human body would become reliant on the body fat it had stored up over time. So let’s next think about what people typically do when they try to lose weight. Usually they will immediately cut calories and increase their activity level. This can work for some, but in many cases, due to age, hormonal imbalances, previous yo-yo dieting, etc. this can lead to your body holding onto body fat. In these cases your body is “tricked” into thinking it has run out of food and needs to hold onto all of its body fat in order to keep you alive. This is sometimes referred to as “starvation mode” in dieting. When your body goes into “starvation mode” it will do everything it can to preserve the fat tissue it has and can lead to very sluggish weight loss.

All too often in our offices we see these “broken metabolisms”. Because of this we have developed the 3-Step Metabolic Reset. This proprietary 3 step process aims to remove the barriers to predictable weight loss. By implementing this process we can make weight loss easier, faster and more predictable for many clients. In or experience, a more predictable pattern of weight loss leads to more clients sticking with the program long term. Seeing that what you are doing is leading to immediate results can be highly motivating. The 3-Step Metabolic Rest involves certain scheduled intervals of eating along with taking specific natural nutraceuticals over a three day period. Once this barrier to weight loss is removed we move on to setting up a realistic plan for predictable fat loss. Whether a client has a weight loss goal of 100 lbs. or 15 lbs., the 3-Step Metabolic Reset is the foundation for getting them to that goal in a straightforward manner.
